There's no simple answer to the question of what the average impress of auto insurance is. Auto insurance rates are determined by many factors and conditions. Is the driver male or female, old or young, experienced or newly licensed? Do they drive an older vehicle or a newer model with all the latest safety features? Are they getting liability only or a comprehensive coverage plan?
To give some examples of average insurance costs across the United States, let's consult a study done by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). While the study only shows data through 2008, statistically the percentages of increase and decrease in costs fluctuates at less than 3%. This means the data and figures won't be very far off from current pricing and statistics.
The average price of auto insurance nationwide is shown as being $789 per year. While $800 a year for insurance is an average nationwide, if we look closer at clear states and localities, we gaze that this can be very far away from the average of certain places. For example, Washington DC has an average insurance cost of $1,126 as it is listed as the most expensive state for auto insurance. The least expensive state listed is North Dakota, with an average yearly insurance cost of $503.
The 10 most expensive states to carry auto insurance in on average are DC, Louisiana, New Jersey, Florida, Unique York, Delaware, Rhode Island, Nevada, Connecticut and Maryland. The 10 least expensive states to have auto insurance in are North Dakota, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Idaho, Kansas, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Maine and Indiana.
Insurance costs in some states are higher, not just because of the area in which you are living, but also because people in that dwelling may be better able to afford more expensive newer vehicles, which they are insuring with comprehensive coverage for greater amounts. The opposite is legal for areas with poorer economies; consumers are driving older model vehicles and insuring for less. They are probably getting by with liability only. These are generalities that speak only to the circumstances in general of certain locales.
Auto insurance will also be more expensive in urban areas that have more traffic and more vandalism. This is why certain cities are great more expensive than the states average that they are located in. Detroit, Michigan is one such city. The state average is $907 and the average annual auto premium for Detroit is $5,948. While the Louisiana average is $1,105; the average for New Orleans is $3,802.
So, we can give an average overall for insurance policy costs across the country; but it is far from an average for any state, person or type of vehicle.

Keeping Auto Insurance Rates Down
There are ways that senior citizens can buy responsibility to control their auto insurance rates. Here are a few suggestions.
According to seniorjournal.com, most of the major auto insurance agencies provide a 5% – 10% discount to drivers beginning at the ages of 50 or 55. However, as a group, drivers 75 and older have one of the highest rates of fatal daytime accidents. Because of this, it’s indispensable that senior drivers stay proactive and involved in keeping their driving skills sharp.
Many states offer an auto insurance discount for customary drivers if a person meets a given age criteria and has taken an approved mature driver safety course. Local colleges and senior centers are good resources to learn about the classes. AARP has local and on-line access to the course. Costco offers its members an online drivers’ safety training course through FirstNet: www.firstnetlearning.com.
Another way to support auto insurance rates down is to drive a low-profile car, one that as part of a group has a lower rate due to minimum repair costs, considered safer and less likely to be stolen. Check the Highway Loss Data Institute, www.iihs.org, for the latest related data.
Examine current auto insurance needs and requirements. Changing to higher deductibles or dropping collision or comprehensive coverage for older cars may make sense.
Always ask about discounts when purchasing or renewing auto insurance.
And finally, the best long-term advice: Always drive defensively, stay alert and follow the driving laws. Maintaining a safe driving record is the best way to keep auto insurance rates down.

Because of this, especially here in California, many government agencies and corporations are offering incentives to their employees and customers to reduce smog. They are doing this in order to decrease the amount of pollutants that we put off into the air.

Are you a senior citizen looking for the best auto insurance? Have you been with the same auto insurance company for several years and not sure whether you are getting the best coverage for a low price? Maybe you are looking for lower rates for your parents. Here you will find tips on how to take the first steps in finding a lower rate for car insurance, and a review of the best auto insurance companies and their websites.
First, look for a driving refresher course for yourself or your senior parent, because these courses can lower your auto insurance rate. They may be listed as Senior Safe Driving Courses or Driver Safety Course, but these classes can also help you on the road.
Since seniors, in most cases, have had continuous coverage for several years, they can qualify for the continuous coverage discount. Even if you plan to stay with the same auto insurance company, you can also ask your current auto insurance company for a list of available discounts you can qualify for, like putting all of your insurance needs into one company and one bill. Putting your auto, home, and life insurance policies into one, can also save you time, and money.
If you have not filed any claims against your auto insurance companies, or have had very few claims in the several years you have been insured, you can receive a discount for being a ample driver. Even if you have the right age, the right car, having a large amount of insurance claims can hurt your monthly auto insurance payments.
Some auto insurance companies also offer discounts for purchasing their auto insurance online. In some cases, seniors are not computer savvy and may need assistance, so I suggest asking a relative to help, visit your local library or visit your local senior care center.
Below you will find a review of my top three choices for auto insurance for seniors. By purchasing your premium and paying the full payment at once, you will also do money, instead of paying monthly.
Esurance
For standard coverage for a 55 year musty senior couple driving a 2008 Chevy Cobalt, with no accidents in the past 3 to 5 years, minimum Ohio state coverage for liability, $100 deductibles for comprehension and collision, towing up to &75, and rental reimbursement of $30 per day up to $900, is about $65 per month or $400 for 6 months of auto insurance coverage. This estimate gives you a small look at what you would be paying through Esurance. They offer quick and easy payment options online at www.esurance.com, where you can download and print a copy of your auto insurance cards immediately after your payment is processed.
The General
The General auto insurance company offers indecent rates on almost every insurance policy they sell, which makes them one of my favorite auto insurance companies. For about $56 per month or $280 for 6 months, or $550 per year, a senior couple ages 55 will receive the Ohio state minimums for liability, $250 deductibles for comprehension and collision, rental reimbursement of $25 per day up to $750, and towing up to $75 for a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. The only downfall of The General auto insurance is that the lowest deductible for comprehension and collision is $250 each, and they pay lower amounts toward rental reimbursements. You can go to www.thegeneral.com to receive a free quote. If you determine their rates, you can purchase your policy online with a credit or debit card and download and print your insurance cards at home after your payment is processed in minutes.
Progressive
Out of these three auto insurance companies, Progressive offers the lowest rate of auto insurance with the better package deals for a 55 year old senior driving a 2008 Chevy Cobalt. For about $47 per month or $255 for a 6 month premium, you will receive the highest liability coverage, $100 deductibles for comprehension and collision, rental car reimbursement of $50 per day up to $1500, roadside assistance that pays for the cost of service and or reimbursement, loan or lease payoff, and enrolls you into the Myrate plan that saves you 25% off your renewal. Progressive auto insurance is an excellent choice for seniors, simply because they offer ease and convenience. For auto insurance claims, you can call their 1-800 number, and an agent will advance to you. You can get your free quote at www.progressive.com. Progressive also offers speedily and convenience policy payments online, and you can download and print your auto insurance cards at home immediately after your payment has processed in minutes.

According to an article about preventing automobile accidents exciting teen drivers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens – - teen drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely to be involved in a car shatter than older drivers. If you get past this discouraging statistic and allow your teen to obtain their drivers’ license and get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you must first gain auto insurance for your teen driver. Auto insurance for teens is probably the most costly form of insurance that you will ever purchase; however, taking the time to search for the best auto insurance for teenagers will help reduce the cost to you.
Auto insurance for your teen driver will be expensive but there are steps you can take to gash the cost of teen automobile insurance. One way to decrease the cost of automobile insurance for teenagers is not popular with most teens – - choosing a vehicle that is not a sports car, not a trace new vehicle, does not contain a grand engine and does not have a sound system that would make an Imax theater jealous. In addition to age and driving history, automobile insurance companies take into consideration the vehicle that the driver will be using when quoting rates. As with adults, the vehicle can affect the insurance rate and teens are infamous for wanting fast, loud vehicles, which also are a huge distraction for them when driving. Even though it may not be popular with your teen driver, decide a modest, family vehicle for their first car. This will not only lower your automobile insurance (it will still be high) but it could also reduce their risk for an auto accident.
In addition to choosing a vehicle, comparison shopping for auto insurance for teenagers is mandatory to get the best teen auto insurance at the lowest rate. Begin with your current automobile insurance provider and obtain a quote for adding your teen to your policy as well as a quote for a separate auto insurance policy for your teen driver. It is best to obtain quotes for both options, as obtaining a separate policy may be a better value than adding your teen to your insurance policy. Do not forget to ask for specials and discounts from your current company for family insurance coverage and long-standing customers. After you have an insurance quote from your current insurance company, contact several insurance companies and obtain teen insurance quotes to compare prices.
Asking for discounts for the following factors when comparison shopping can also save you money when purchasing auto insurance for teenagers:
1. Taking and passing a Drivers Education Course
2. Good Student Discount – discounts for teen drivers who maintain high grade point averages
3. Passing their driver’s examination with high scores
4. Taking a Defensive Driving Class or Accident Prevention Course
Do not opt to reduce insurance coverage to save money – - it is best to pay the small increase to have full coverage on your teen driver than to save a few bucks and risk lowering coverage. For more information on how to protect your teen driver read the information provided at Progressive.com and Nationwide.com about teen drivers.
